Just when the water is about to reach boiling point, the frog is not able to adjust anymore...

At that point the frog decides to jump out...

The frog tries to jump but is unable to do so, because it lost all its strength in adjusting with the water temperature...

Very soon the frog dies. What killed the frog?

Many of us would say the boiling water...

But the truth is what killed the frog was its own inability to decide when it had to jump out...

We all need to adjust with people and situations, but we need to be sure when we need to adjust and when we need to face...

There are times when we need to face the situation and take the appropriate action...

If we allow people to exploit us physically, emotionally or financially, they will continue to do so...

Sri Vishnu Sahasra

Nama was revealed in the month of Magha, according to lunar calendar, on the

11th day of waxing moon, that is sukla paksha ekadasi which comes exactly after

2 months of Githopadesa. Bheeshma Ekadasi is an auspicious occasion, the birth

day of Sri Vishnu Sahasra Nama Sthothram. This sthothram was revealed to

Pandavas by Bheeshmacharya when he was on the bed of arrows, after the

Mahabharatha war. Lord Krishna revealed Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. Though Arjuna

was able to converse with Lord Krishna and clear many of his doubts, he

couldn't absorb it completely as-it-is from the view point of the Lord.

Fortunately, Sanjaya who is televiewing and explaining the happenings of the

war to the blind King Dhrutharashtra was able to view this upadesam also

through whom Bhagavad Githa came into this world. Ekadasi day(11th day of the

full/new moon phase) is considered to be very holy day

on which devotees take minimum food and spend most of their time contemplating

on the Lord. It is the day on which the Saththvik nature in man blossoms more

easily and opens up the way for one's enlightenment.

श्री साई सच्चरित्र अध्याय 42

अध्याय 42 

महासमाधि की ओर,

भविष्य की आगाही – रामचन्द्र दादा पाटील और तात्या कोते पाटील की मृत्यु टालना, लक्ष्मीबाई शिन्दे को दान, समस्त प्राणियों में बाबा का वास, अन्तिम क्षण ।

बाबा ने किस प्रकार समाधि ली, इसका वर्णन इस अध्याय में किया गया है ।

*प्रस्तावना*

गत अध्यायों की कथाओं से यह स्पष्ट प्रतीत होता है कि गुरुकृपा की केवल एक किरण ही भवसागर के भय से सदा के लिये मुक्त कर देती है तथा मोक्ष का पथ सुगम करके दुःख को सुख में परिवर्तित कर देती है । यदि सदगुरु के मोहविनाशक पूजनीय चरणों का सदैव स्मरण करते रहोगे तो तुम्हारे समस्त कष्टों और भवसागर के दुःखों का अन्त होकर जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र से छुटकारा हो जायेगा । इसीलिये जो अपने कल्याणार्थ चिन्तित हो, उन्हें साई समर्थ के अलौकिक मधुर लीलामृत का पान करना चाहिये । ऐसा करने से उनकी मति शुद्घ हो जायेगी । प्रारम्भ में डाँक्टर पंडित का पूजन तथा किस प्रकार उन्होंने बाबा को त्रिपुंड लगाया, इसका उल्लेख मूल ग्रन्थ में किया गया है । इस प्रसंग का वर्णन 11 वें अध्याय में किया जा चुका है, इसलिये यहाँ उसका दुहराना उचित नहीं है ।

*भविष्य की आगाही*

पाठको! आपने अभी तक केवल बाबा के जीवन-काल की ही कथायें सुनी है । अब आप ध्यानपूर्वक बाबा के निर्वाणकाल का वर्णन सुनिये । 28 सितम्बर, सन् 1918 को बाबा को साधारण-सा ज्वर आया । यह ज्वर 2-3 दिन तक रहा । इसके उपरान्त ही बाबा ने भोजन करना बिलकुल त्याग दिया । इससे उनका शरीर दिन-प्रतिदिन क्षीण एवं दुर्बल होने लगा । 17 दिनों के पश्चात् अर्थात् 15 अक्टूबर, सन् 1918 को 2 बजकर 30 मिनट पर उन्होंने अपना शरीर त्याग दिया । (यह समय प्रो. जी. जी. नारके के तारीख 5-11-1918 के पत्र के अनुसार है, जो उन्होंने दादासाहेब खापर्डे को लिखा था और उस वर्ष की साईलीलापत्रिका के 7-8 पृष्ठ (प्रथम वर्ष) में प्रकाशित हुआ था) । इसके दो वर्ष पूर्व ही बाबा ने अपने निर्वाण के दिन का संकेत कर दिया था, परन्तु उस समय कोई भी समझ नहीं सका । घटना इस प्रकार है । विजयादशमी के दिन जब लोग सन्ध्या के समय 'सीमोल्लंघन' से लौट रहे थे तो बाबा सहसा ही क्रोधित हो गये । सिर पर का कपड़ा, कफनी और लँगोटी निकालकर उन्होंने उसके टुकड़े-टुकड़े करके जलती हुई धूनी में फेंक दिये । बाबा के द्वारा आहुति प्राप्त कर धूनी द्विगुणित प्रज्वलित होकर चमकने लगी और उससे भी कहीं अधिक बाबा के मुख-मंडल की कांति चमक रही थी । वे पूर्ण दिगम्बर खड़े थे और उनकी आँखें अंगारे के समान चमक रही थी । उन्होंने आवेश में आकर उच्च स्वर में कहा कि, "लोगो! यहाँ आओ, मुझे देखकर पूर्ण निश्चय कर लो कि मैं हिन्दू हूँ या मुसलमान ।" सभी भय से काँप रहे थे । किसी को भी उनके समीप जाने का साहस न हो रहा था । कुछ समय बीतने के पश्चात् उनके भक्त भागोजी शिन्दे, जो महारोग से पीड़ित थे, साहस कर बाबा के समीप गये और किसी प्रकार उन्होंने उन्हें लँगोटी बाँध दी और उनसे कहा कि, "बाबा ! यह क्या बात है ? देव ! आज दशहरा (सीमोल्लंघन) का त्योहार है ।" तब उन्होंने जमीन पर सटका पटकते हुए कहा कि, यह मेरा सीमोल्लंघन है । लगभग 11 बजे तक भी उनका क्रोध शान्त न हुआ और भक्तों को चावड़ी जुलूस निकलने में सन्देह होने लगा । एक घण्टे के पश्चात् वे अपनी सहज स्थिति में आ गये और सदा की भांति पोशाक पहनकर चावड़ी जुलूस में सम्मिलित हो गये, जिसका वर्णन पूर्व में ही किया जा चुका है । इस घटना द्वारा बाबा ने इंगित किया कि जीवन-रेखा पार करने के लिये दशहरा ही उचित समय है । परन्तु उस समय किसी को भी उसका असली अर्थ समझ में न आया । बाबा ने और भी अन्य संकेत किये, जो इस प्रकार है । :-

*रामचन्द्र दादा पाटील की मृत्यु टालना*

कुछ समय के पश्चात् रामचन्द्र पाटील बहुत बीमार हो गये । उन्हें बहुत कष्ट हो रहा था । सब प्रकार के उपचार किये गये, परन्तु कोई लाभ न हुआ और जीवन से हताश होकर वे मृत्यु के अंतिम क्षणों की प्रतीक्षा करने लगे । तब एक दिन मध्याहृ रात्रि के समय बाबा अनायास ही उनके सिरहाने प्रगट हुए । पाटील उनके चरणों से लिपट कर कहने लगे कि मैंने अपने जीवन की समस्त आशाएँ छोड़ दी है । अब कृपा कर मुझे इतना तो निश्चित बतलाइये कि मेरे प्राण अब कब निकलेंगे? दया-सिन्धु बाबा ने कहा कि, 'घबराओ नहीं । तुम्हारी हुँण्डी वापस ले ली गई है और तुम शीघ्र ही स्वस्थ हो जाओगे । मुझे तो केवल तात्या का भय है कि सन् 1918 में विजयादशमी के दिन उसका देहान्त हो जायेगा । किन्तु यह भेद किसी से प्रगट न करना और न ही किसी को बतलाना । अन्यथा वह अधिक भयभीत हो जायेगा ।' रामचन्द्र अब पूर्ण स्वस्थ हो गये, परन्तु वे तात्या के जीवन के लिये निराश हुए । उन्हें ज्ञात था कि बाबा के शब्द कभी असत्य नहीं निकल सकते और दो वर्ष के पश्चात ही तात्या इस संसर से विदा हो जायेगा । उन्होंने यह भेद बाला शिंपी के अतिरिक्त किसी से भी प्रगट न किया । केवल दो ही व्यक्ति – रामचन्द्र दादा और बाला शिंपी तात्या के जीवन के लिये चिन्ताग्रस्त और दुःखी थे ।

रामचन्द्र ने शैया त्याग दी और वे चलने-फिरने लगे । समय तेजी से व्यतीत होने लगा । शके 1840 का भाद्रपद समाप्त होकर आश्विन मास प्रारम्भ होने ही वाला था कि बाबा के वचन पूर्णतः सत्य निकले । तात्या बीमार पड़ गये और उन्होंने चारपाई पकड़ ली । उनकी स्थिति इतनी गंभीर हो गई कि अब वे बाबा के दर्शनों को भी जाने में असमर्थ हो गये । इधर बाबा भी ज्वर से पीड़ित थे । तात्या का पूर्ण विश्वास बाबा पर था और बाबा का भगवान श्री हरि पर, जो उनके संरक्षक थे । तात्या की स्थिति अब और अधिक चिन्ताजनक हो गई । वह हिलडुल भी न सकता था और सदैव बाबा का ही स्मरण किया करता था । इधर बाबा की भी स्थिति उत्तरोत्तर गंभीर होने लगी । बाबा द्वारा बतलाया हुआ विजयादशमी का दिन भी निकट आ गया । तब रामचन्द्र दादा और बाला शिंपी बहुत घबरा गये । उनके शरीर काँप रहे थे, पसीने की धारायें प्रवाहित हो रही थी, कि अब तात्या का अन्तिम साथ है । जैसे ही विजया-दशमी का दिन आया, तात्या की नाड़ी की गति मन्द होने लगी और उसकी मृत्यु सन्निकट दिखलाई देने लगी । उसी समय एक विचित्र घटना घटी । तात्या की मृत्यु टल गई और उसके प्राण बच गये, परन्तु उसके स्थान पर बाबा स्वयं प्रस्थान कर गये और ऐसा प्रतीत हुआ, जैसे कि परस्पर हस्तान्तरण हो गया हो । सभी लोग कहने लगे कि बाबा ने तात्या के लिये प्राण त्यागे । ऐसा उन्होंने क्यों किया, यह वे ही जाने, क्योंकि यह बात हमारी बुद्घि के बाहर की है । ऐसा भी प्रतीत होता है कि बाबा ने अपने अन्तिम काल का संकेत तात्या का नाम लेकर ही किया था ।

दूसरे दिन 16 अक्टूबर को प्रातःकाल बाबा ने दासगणू को पंढरपुर में स्वप्न दिया कि मसजिद अर्रा करके गिर पड़ी है । शिरडी के प्रायः सभी तेली तम्बोली मुझे कष्ट देते थे । इसलिये मैंने अपना स्थान छोड़ दिया है । मैं तुम्हें यह सूचना देने आया हूँ कि कृपया शीघ्र वहाँ जाकर मेरे शरीर पर हर तरह के फूल इकट्ठा कर चढ़ाओ । दासगणू को शिरडी से भी एक पत्र प्राप्त हुआ और वे अपने शिष्यों को साथ लेकर शिरडी आये तथा उन्होंने बाबा की समाधि के समक्ष अखंड कीर्तन और हरिनाम प्रारम्भ कर दिया । उन्होंने स्वयं फूलो की माला गूँथी और ईश्वर का नाम लेकर समाधि पर चढ़ाई । बाबा के नाम पर एक वृहद भोज का भी आयोजन किया गया ।

*लक्ष्मीबाई को दान*

विजयादशमी का दिन हिन्दुओं को बहुत शुभ है और सीमोल्लंघन के लिये बाबा द्वारा इस दिन का चुना जाना सर्वथा उचित ही है । इसके कुछ दिन पूर्व से ही उन्हें अत्यन्त पीड़ा हो रही थी, परन्तु आन्तरिक रुप में वे पूर्ण सजग थे । अन्तिम क्षण के पूर्व वे बिना किसी की सहायता लिये उठकर सीधे बैठ गये और स्वस्थ दिखाई पड़ने लगे । लोगों ने सोचा कि संकट टल गया और अब भय की कोई बात नहीं है तथा अब वे शीघ्र ही नीरोग हो जायेंगे । परन्तु वे तो जानते थे कि अब मैं शीघ्र ही विदा लेने वाला हूँ और इसलिये उन्होंने लक्ष्मीबाई शिन्दे को कुछ दान देने की इच्छा प्रगट की ।

*समस्त प्राणियों में बाबा का निवास*

लक्ष्मीबाई एक उच्च कुलीन महिला थी । वे मसजिद में बाबा की दिन-रात सेवा किया करती थी । केवल भगत म्हालसापति तात्या और लक्ष्मीबाई के अतिरिक्त रात को मसजिद की सीढ़ियों पर कोई नहीं चढ़ सकता था । एक बार सन्ध्या समय जब बाबा तात्या के साथ मसजिद में बैठे हुए थे, तभी लक्ष्मीबाई ने आकर उन्हे नमस्कार किया । तब बाबा कहने लगे कि, "अरी लक्ष्मी, मैं अत्यन्त भूखा हूँ ।" वे यह कहकर लौट पड़ी कि, "बाबा, थोड़ी देर ठहरो, मैं अभी आपके लिये रोटी लेकर आती हूँ ।" उन्होंने रोटी और साग लाकर बाबा के सामने रख दिया, जो उन्होंने एक भूखे कुत्ते को दे दिया । तब लक्ष्मीबाई कहने लगी कि, "बाबा यह क्या? मैं तो शीघ्र गई और अपने हाथ से आपके लिये रोटी बना लाई । आपने एक ग्रास भी ग्रहण किये बिना उसे कुत्ते के सामने डाल दिया । तब आपने व्यर्थ ही मुझे कष्ट क्यों दिया ?" बाबा न उत्तर दिया कि, "व्यर्थ दुःख न करो । कुत्ते की भूख शान्त करना मुझे तृप्त करने के बराबर ही है । कुत्ते की भी तो आत्मा है । प्राणी चाहे भले ही भिन्न आकृति-प्रकृति के हो, उनमें कोई बोल सकते है और कोई मूक है, परन्तु भूख सबकी एक सदृश ही है । इसे तुम सत्य जानो कि जो भूखों को भोजन कराता है, वह यथार्थ में मुझे ही भोजन कराता है । यह एक अकाट्य सत्य है ।" इस साधारण- सी घटना के द्वारा बाबा ने एक महान् आध्यात्मिक सत्य की शिक्षा प्रदान की कि बिना किसी की भावनाओं को कष्ट पहुँचाये किस प्रकार उसे नित्य व्यवहार में लाया जा सकता है । इसके पश्चात् ही लक्ष्मीबाई उन्हें नित्य ही प्रेम और भक्तिपूर्वक दूध, रोटी व अन्य भोजन देने लगी, जिसे वे स्वीकार कर बड़े चाव से खाते थे । वे उसमें से कुछ खाकर शेष लक्ष्मीबाई के द्वारा ही राधाकृष्ण माई के पास भेज दिया करते थे । इस उच्छिष्ट अन्न को वे प्रसाद स्वरुप समझ कर प्रेमपूर्वक पाती थी । इस रोटी की कथा को असंबन्ध नहीं समझना चाहिये । इससे सिद्ध होता है कि सभी प्राणियों में बाबा का निवास है, जो सर्वव्यापी, जन्म-मृत्यु से परे और अमर है ।

बाबा ने लक्ष्मीबाई की सेवाओं को सदैव स्मरण रखा । बाबा उनको भुला भी कैसे सकते थे? देह-त्याग के बिल्कुल पूर्व बाबा ने अपनी जेब में हाथ डाला और पहले उन्होंने लक्ष्मी को पाँच रुपये और बाद में चार रुपये, इस प्रकार कुल नौ रुपये दिये । यह नौ की संख्या इस पुस्तक के अध्याय 12 में वर्णित नवविधा भक्ति की द्योतक है अथवा यह सीमोल्लंघन के समय दी जाने वाली दक्षिणा भी हो सकती है । लक्ष्मीबाई एक सुसंपन्न महिला थी । अतएव उन्हें रुपयों की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं थी । इस कारण संभव है कि बाबा ने उनका ध्यान प्रमुख रुप से श्रीमदभागवत के स्कन्ध 11, अध्याय 10 के श्लोंक सं. 6 की ओर आकर्षित किया हो, जिसमे उत्कृष्ट कोटि के भक्त के नौ लक्षणों का वर्णन है, जिनमें से पहले 5 और बाद मे 4 लक्षणों का क्रमशः प्रथम और द्वितीय चरणों में उल्लेख हुआ है । बाबा ने भी उसी क्रम का पालन किया (पहले 5 और बाद में 4; कुल 9) केवल 9 रुपये ही नहीं बल्कि नौ के कई गुने रुपये लक्ष्मीबाई के हाथों में आये-गये होंगे, किन्तु बाबा के द्वारा प्रद्त्त यह नौ (रुपये) का उपहार वह महिला सदैव स्मरण रखेगी ।

*अंतिम क्षण*

बाबा सदैव सजग और चैतन्य रहते थे और उन्होंने अन्तिम समय भी पूर्ण सावधानी से काम लिया । उन्होंने अन्तिम समय सबको वहाँ से चले जाने का आदेश दिया । चिंतामग्न काकासाहेब दीक्षित, बापूसाहेब बूटी और अन्य महानुभाव, जो मसजिद में बाबा की सेवा में उपस्थित थे, उनको भी बाबा ने वाड़े में जाकर भोजन करके लौट आने को कहा । ऐसी स्थिति में वे बाबा को अकेला छोड़ना तो नहीं चाहते थे, परन्तु उनकी आज्ञा का उल्लंघन भी तो नहीं कर सकते थे । इसलिये इच्छा ना होते हुए भी उदास और दुःखी हृदय से उन्हें वाड़े को जाना पड़ा । उन्हें विदित था कि बाबा की स्थिति अत्यन्त चिन्ताजनक है और इस प्रकार उन्हें अकेले छोड़ना उचित नहीं है वे भोजन करने के लिये बैठे तो, परन्तु उनके मन कहीं और (बाबा के साथ) थे । अभी भोजन समाप्त भी न हो पाया था कि बाबा के नश्वर शरीर त्यागने का समाचार उनके पास पहुँचा और वे अधपेट ही अपनी अपनी थाली छोड़कर मसजिद की ओर भागे और जाकर देखा कि बाबा सदा के लिये बयाजी आपा कोते की गोद में विश्राम कर रहे है । न वे नीचे लुढ़के और न शैया पर ही लेटे, अपने ही आसन पर शान्तिपूर्वक बैठे हुए और अपने ही हाथों से दान देते हुए उन्होंने यह मानव-शरीर त्याग दिया । सन्त स्वयं ही देह धारण करते है तथा कोई निश्चित ध्येय लेकर इस संसार में प्रगट होते है ओर जब देह पूर्ण हो जाता है तो वे जिस सरलता और आकस्मिकता के साथ प्रगट होते है, उसी प्रकार लुप्त भी हो जाया करते है ।
